Meet A Mom- Erica Sommerer | Ridgefield Moms
Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in Ridgefield?
I am a third generation Ridgefield resident, born and raised here! I have lived on the same road my entire life. We moved one house over from my parent’s house I grew up in. My dad has lived on the same road his whole life as well. Lots of deep family roots and memories on this road for our family.
How many children do you have?  Tell us a bit about your family…
I have three children- Bobby (8), Paityn (5), and Owen (3). The older two just started school back at Branchville and are loving it! I also went to BES for fourth and fifth grade after the town reopened the school in the late 90s. My great-aunt was the school librarian there up until her retirement and we currently live in the home that was once her and her sister’s.
Tell us about your work…
I recently was the content coordinator for Ridgefield Neighbors magazine which is on a hiatus right now due to Covid-19. I really enjoyed writing again as I was an English and Elementary Education major. I loved meeting new people and shining a light on individuals who deserve to be recognized for their positive contributions to town. I would love to continue writing and am looking for that next door to open. The supportive community and networking with other moms while working on magazine stories made me feel more than “just a mom”. I also worked as an assistant preschool teacher in town for several years which was a joy each and every day!
What has been the best piece of advice you have received from another mother?
As moms we have so many things to juggle on a daily basis and the best advice I have ever gotten is to give yourself grace. This can look different to everyone, but so necessary.
