Where are you originally from and how long have you lived in town?
1) I was born and raised in Syosset, New York, ultimately moving to Boston after graduating college. It was there that I met, married, and started a family with my husband, Mark. We moved to Ridgefield this last September and are so happy to put down roots in such an incredible community.
How many children do you have?
2) I am “Mom” to three kiddos: Caleb is 8yo and entering 3rd grade, Sydney is 5yo and entering kindergarten, and Fiona is 2yo.
Please share about your business venture…
3) Leaving Boston meant leaving behind my job as an elementary art teacher. Having the opportunity to spend my days at work exercising my creativity was so fulfilling for me. Upon moving, settling the into a new home & life, not to mention the typical ups and downs of parenthood, I went through a huge creative lull.
Come March, I decided to create tie dyed burp clothes as baby gifts for two friends. My own kids were enthralled and requested some tie dye of their own. Mid April I posted a picture of my daughters in their new dresses with the hashtag #placeyourorders. Mark had said the dresses were really good so I was kind of kidding, but also kind of curious what might happen. I got my first few orders from that post and just about two weeks later Rags to Rainbows was officially open for business.
How has this community been instrumental in developing this business and how can others help to support your mission?
4) This community has surpassed my expectations in terms of showing interest and support in my work. From friends I’d made prior, to women I’ve befriended along the way, I feel as though I have cheerleaders surrounding me at all times. Be it through spreading the word, positive encouragement, or simply creating a spreadsheet, the tribe of mothers in Ridgefield are absolutely incredible.
