Assisted Living & Planning for the Elderly - Ridgefield Moms

Wendy Day is this week’s Meet a Mom! This Old Greenwich resident and mom of two is a Certified Senior Advisor with Assisted Living Locators, helping families find solutions for their aging loved ones. Since this is something so many of us are dealing with (or will in the future), we were happy to speak to Wendy and learn a little bit more about her business, her life in Greenwich and more.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Connecticut?
I am originally from Long Island and have been in Old Greenwich for 13 years. I have two children, Bridget (13) and Tommy (7).

Can you please tell us a bit about your work with Assisted Living Locators?
Exploring senior living options can be confusing and time consuming. Assisted Living Locators is a free referral service that works closely with families and guides you through the process from beginning to end. Whether it be Independent, Assisted Living or Memory Care, we help navigate your options based on care needs, location and budget. We have advisors in 125 locations throughout the country so we can also help you explore options in other states if needed.

Such an important service! What is your best advice or tips for anyone dealing with aging parents?
My advice is to be prepared. Have all of the legal documents and advanced directives in place. I would also suggest looking into communities if this may be an option down the road. It is good to be prepared mentally and financially if a crisis should occur.

Great advice. What has helped you find your way in this industry?
I am a true component of the “sandwich generation”. My father is home with a full time caregiver and my mother is in Assisted Living. I know the issues of aging parents first hand and understand the stress, time and resources needed when you are faced with a crisis situation. My experiences paved the way for this new venture and I want to help people relieve some of the anxiety that this part of life brings.

And anyone who has truly helped you through parenthood?

My sisters and friends – it takes a village!

We agree! What are some of your favorite things to do with your kids?
Snuggle time, family walks and beach dinners.

Anything else you’d like to share?
During the holiday time, many families come together for the first time all year. This is a time when family members realize that their loved one’s health has declined since their last visit.

If you or someone you know is concerned, Wendy is there to help.  She can help you navigate a solution whether it be in home care or looking into alternative senior living options. Please email [email protected], call (203) 979-8825 or go to westernct.assitedlivinglocators.com.
