Meet A Mom-Claire Moffatt | Ridgefield Moms

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio but went to the new england area for both undergrad (UVM) and graduate school (Northeastern) so I have a deep love for this region! We migrated up to Ridgefield 5 years ago after living in Brooklyn and Westchester. We absolutely love the area. There’s so much to do here and it’s simply a beautiful place to call home!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

Olive, age 7 – entering 2nd grade

Griffin, age 6 – entering 1st grade

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I’ve jumped out of a plane.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My big sister! She lives in the Boston area but had 4 kids before I was even married. So was definitely one of my go to people through pregnancy and after. In fact, my son was born 7 weeks early and she drove down to Northern Westchester hospital from Natick to help take care of Olive that night.

And of course my mom friends – from growing up to college to now. I don’t think I could get by without their support, advice, laughter, and encouragement.

Favorite things to do with your kids?

I love to hike with them. They don’t always love it and can complain a ton! But I want them to have a love of the outdoors like I do. And, I think they do feel a sense of accomplishment. We just did 2.75 miles in Camden, ME last week.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am a certified power vinyasa yoga instructor and a certified holistic health coach. I’ve always loved learning about health and wellness. But when I got sick almost 20 years ago, I had to become my own advocate and detective. That made me pursue the holistic health certification. Now I work with adults that want to take back control of their own health. As for yoga, I started practicing in 2000 and I had always been curious to learn more about the practice and how it is much more than the physical poses. I consider myself a life-long student of the practice even as a teacher I’m continuously learning through my students. I teach regularly at Lyn Kehoe Power Yoga as well as through private classes.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I’ve practiced many different styles of yoga in my different studios but opted to train for my certification at Lyn’s studio. Her curriculum, support and feedback have been eye opening. And not to mention, the community that she’s built is simply amazing. Everyone is incredibly kind and supportive and I love being there.

I’ve also used Hello Ridgefield to help promote who I am and what I do. Their focus on “local helping local” is so important and truly what Ridgefield is about.
